After the success of The Woburn Abbey Garden Show, Well Grounded Gardens was invited back to redesign the garden at The Woburn Hotel. As well as being a space for events such as wedding photos it is also the home of Woburn Village War Memorial. The design is a simple and sophisticated remodel of the existing garden achieved mainly by planting.
The new borders are clearly defined by low Buxus sempervirens hedging while the various sizes of Buxus sempervirens balls add structure and definition. Cube headed Carpinus betulus hedging on clear stems provides subtle privacy by giving the impression of seclusion without obscuring views of the garden from the street.
We wanted to turn the area into a place for quiet contemplation not only for Remembrance Day but for other periods of the year. We also chose to add an additional focal point in the second gravel circle by providing an area for the display of local sculptors to exhibit their work.
