George has been awarded the MHort Dissertation Award for the highest graded dissertation in his year group. His final dissertation focussed on inequity within the United Kingdom using qualitative research within a historical and global framework.
The study aimed to determine how people from black communities can fully engage in horticultural careers in the UK. The research objectives were to i) investigate what factors maybe preventing new entrants from black communities, ii) understand which factors are particularly relevant to people from black communities, iii) identify and evaluate what measures exist to improve access and recruitment and iv) consider how access could be improved for a more diverse horticulture profession.
